I recently built my own custom arcade controller. Part of my reasoning was so I could experience and enjoy revisiting the Punch Out franchise. I was so happy to jump right in and try this Super Punch Out emulator.

Like its predecessor, the game’s premise is simple. Time your punches appropriately, dodge, and block your opponent’s attacks. Luckily, the game gives you clues (eyes turning color) so that you know when your opponent is attacking.

The game utilizes the joystick and 3 buttons. 1 button is for the left arm, 1 button is used for the right arm, and 1 for the knockout blow.

Once you face off and beat the final opponent, you will become the champion. You’ll then repeat each opponent but the difficulty will be increased.

The Raspberry Pi shines when it comes to playing retro arcade classics thru MAME software.

Unlike, it’s predecessor, I had very little experience playing this title during its original run.

It had been 30 years since I last played this title and I thoroughly enjoy every minute. The game is still highly addictive and seemed fresh to me due to my inexperience.

The graphics are a modest improvement over the previous title and the controls seem to be a bit tighter. Having an Related Posts
